Javax.net.ssl.SSLException durante la carga múltiple de Amazon S3

Estoy usando Simpl3r, una sencilla API Android de alto nivel para subidas robustas y reutilizables de archivos multipart usando el servicio Amazon S3 , para subir archivos multimedia a mi cubo.

En algunas subidas, estoy recibiendo un error SSLException. Aquí está el código donde se produce la excepción:

La excepción no es capturada por mi cláusula Exception. Lo que significa que la aplicación está atrapada en un estado "subida" que nunca termina.
